Biographical Statement

Dr. Sumair Ahmad is a board-certified Gastroenterologist who currently serves as a senior staff physician for the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Henry Ford Health Medical Group. His primary practice site is at Henry Ford Medical Center at Fairlane, Dearborn, Michigan. His primary clinical focus is luminal gastroenterology, an academic interest in celiac disease, and a procedural focus on advanced polypectomy techniques. He has a broader interest in public health and factors affecting public health disparities in urban populations. He is currently interested in healthcare system strategic operations to enhance access and efficiency.

Before joining Henry Ford, he served as section Chief for gastroenterology for Bon Secours Mercy Health in Toledo, Ohio for 2 years. He is a graduate of the Mercy Health Physician Leadership Academy, class of 2021, and served on many leadership committees which include the medical executive committee, surgical governance committee, and several peer review committees on behalf of the medical physician group. He received his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine and graduated with several clinical honors. He completed his internal medicine residency in New York City at Mt. Sinai-Elmhurst Hospital where he went on to serve as Chief resident after being recognized for outstanding clinical performance. He subsequently went on to pursue his fellowship in gastroenterology at Mt. Sinai while simultaneously pursuing his master’s in public health (MPH) at the Icahn School of Public Health and Biomedical Sciences.
