About Me
Biographical Statement
Mohammad E. Ahmed, PhD, is an assistant scientist in the Department of Neurology at Henry Ford Health. His research focuses on uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurological disorders and neurodegeneration, with an emphasis on translational approaches that bridge basic science and clinical applications. He completed his postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Missouri in 2021 before joining Henry Ford Health.
Dr. Ahmed's research investigates the role of neuroinflammation and immunometabolism in the pathogenesis of neurological disorders, including traumatic brain injury (TBI), Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), stroke and other neurodegenerative conditions. His research focuses on how metabolic regulation of innate immune responses, particularly neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and inflammasome signaling, drives neuroinflammation and neurological injury, with the goal of developing novel therapeutic strategies for brain disorders.
Dr. Ahmed collaborates with multidisciplinary teams of neuroscientists, neurologists and translational researchers to advance the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative and neurological disorders. Supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), his research integrates fundamental discoveries with translational approaches to develop innovative therapeutic strategies that reduce neuroinflammation, promote neurological recovery and improve outcomes for patients with brain disorders.
