About Me
Biographical Statement
Jeffrey H. DeClaire, MD, FAAOS, is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who has been practicing orthopaedic surgery in Rochester, Michigan for more than 25 years. He is one of the few orthopaedic surgeons in the world who specializes in the knee. Dr. DeClaire earned his undergraduate degree and medical degree from the University of Michigan. He completed his surgical residency at Wayne State University and then completed his orthopaedic residency training at the University of Michigan Hospitals. He further completed a sports medicine fellowship program that concentrated on knee injuries and disorders, at Penn State University's Hershey Medical Center.
For over 25 years, Dr. DeClaire has focused his practice on the treatment of knee injuries and disorders, including arthroscopy, arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, minimally invasive outpatient partial and total knee replacement, as well as revision and reconstructive procedures of the knee. Dr. DeClaire performs over 1,000 knee surgeries annually. He has been a leader in the development of the rapid recovery program for outpatient partial and total knee replacement as well as the development of minimally invasive surgery (MIS). He has been involved in the development and design of numerous partial and total knee implants and instrumentation. Dr. DeClaire was also the first surgeon in the world to perform an ACL preserving total knee replacement.
Dr. DeClaire is a team physician for Oakland University's Sports Medicine Program and is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at Oakland University. He has been an orthopaedic team consultant to local high schools including Cranbrook-Kingwoods Schools, Andover High School, Lahser High School, Rochester High School, and Rochester Adams High School.

Care Philosophy
Dr. DeClaire's philosophy is to find effective solutions that utilize the least invasive approach to preserve and restore normal knee anatomy, and more importantly, preserve normal knee kinematics and function. His goal is to not only relieve a patient's knee pain, but to help patients return to their activities and improve their quality of life. He takes great pride in giving all patients personalized specialty care that is customized for each patient's goals, needs, and lifestyle. No two knees- or patients- are the same, which is why he values personalized, patient-centered care.
Research Interests
Dr. DeClaire has been actively involved in clinical research throughout his career. He has authored numerous publications as well as presented his studies at both national and international conferences. Dr. DeClaire remains committed to ongoing research, continually exploring and sharing his expertise in the development of new technologies, techniques, and understanding of the pathology of knee conditions.
