About Me
Biographical Statement
Dr. Kirakosyan was born in Armenia into a family of physicians, and from a young age, she was inspired by the knowledge, empathy, and care her parents provided to their patients. She practiced as an epileptologist in Armenia before coming to the UCLA Epilepsy Division for an observership. There, she was inspired by the depth of clinical expertise, the multidisciplinary approach to patient care, and the high standards of excellence in epilepsy management and neurology. This experience exposed her to opportunities for advanced patient care and professional growth in the United States, ultimately motivating her to remain in the country and continue her medical career. Following her observership and completion of the USMLE examinations, she completed her neurology residency at Detroit Medical Center (DMC), where she further developed her expertise in EEG, epilepsy, and the evaluation and management of complex neurological disorders.
After two years in private practice, Dr. Kirakosyan joined Henry Ford Health, where she was honored to become part of an institution known for its commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, education, and patient-centered care. She continues to have a strong interest in epilepsy and neurophysiology while maintaining a broad focus on general neurology. More recently, she has developed a growing interest in neurodegenerative disorders. The emergence of disease-modifying therapies targeting amyloid pathology in Alzheimer's disease has been particularly exciting to her, offering renewed hope for patients and their families.
Care Philosophy
I believe it is essential for patients to be seen not as diseases, but as people. I strive to stay up to date with innovations and advances in medicine to help patients live healthier, fuller, and more hopeful lives.
Research Interests
Dr. Kirakosyan's primary clinical research interest is epilepsy, with a particular focus in advancing our understanding of complex and drug-resistant epilepsy and translating clinical research findings into improved patient care and outcomes.
