Biographical Statement

I am a social epidemiologist with experience and training in cancer disparities research and extensive experience in research within and across integrated health systems. My work combines social, environmental, and biological factors to address health and health care delivery disparities. Although my predominant focus has been the disparities between African and European men with regard to incidence and mortality in prostate cancer, more recently my work has been in the area of lung cancer, specifically lung cancer screening. I am currently the HFHS Site-PI for the Center for Research to Optimize Precision Lung Cancer Screening in Diverse Populations. This study includes five health systems and is capturing data across the lung cancer screening continuum. I am also the HFHS Site-PI for a PCORI clinical trial evaluating web-based methods to enhance smoking cessation among those undergoing lung screening. I am Co-I on the NCI Connect Cohort study which will enroll 16,000 cancer-free patients at HFHS and will follow these patients long-term. I am, additionally, a co-leader of the Cancer Epidemiology, Prevention, and Control Program (CEPC) of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute with the mission of promoting interdisciplinary cancer research by translating research discoveries into novel clinical advances to improve the standard of care in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer and to maximize quality of life in cancer survivors.
