Biographical Statement:
Dr. Arjun Teotia is a health economist whose work focuses on improving the quality, value and accessibility of healthcare through the application of economic theory and advanced econometric methods. His expertise includes value-based care, healthcare insurance, the economics of risky behaviors and the use of artificial intelligence in clinical settings. He also conducts community-based research with vulnerable populations, such as foster youth and older adults, engaging participants and policymakers throughout the research process. His work advances evidence-based strategies that improve health outcomes while promoting sustainable, high-value care.
Dr. Teotia is an assistant scientist at Henry Ford Health and an assistant professor at Michigan State University. His published work examines the use of artificial intelligence in U.S. hospitals, hospital costs and quality, behavioral health of young people (including social media use and suicide risk), and the economics of substance use, tobacco use and obesity. He earned a doctorate in economics from Georgia State University and completed postdoctoral training at Rutgers University and the University of California, Berkeley. His work has been supported by organizations including The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, the Michigan Applied Public Policy Research program, the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health.
