Yener N Yeni, PhD

Biographical Statement

Dr. Yener Yeni's research applies engineering principles to the study of bone. His work centers on bone quality, orthopedic biomechanics and the mechanical mechanisms underlying skeletal fragility, with the goal of better predicting and preventing the fractures associated with osteoporosis and other bone disorders.

Dr. Yeni brings an interdisciplinary background spanning engineering and the biological sciences. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Hacettepe University and a master's in engineering sciences from Middle East Technical University, both in Turkey, before completing a doctorate in mechanical engineering at West Virginia University. He then received further training as a postdoctoral fellow in biomechanics at Henry Ford Hospital. The combination of mechanical engineering and biomechanics informs his distinctive approach to understanding how the structure and material properties of bone govern its strength.

Throughout his career, Dr. Yeni has investigated the factors that determine bone quality and its susceptibility to fracture, drawing on advanced bone imaging and image analysis to characterize skeletal tissue at multiple scales. His contributions have earned distinct recognition, as evidenced by continuous research support from premier sponsors like the NIH and DOD. An active member of the orthopedic and biomechanics research communities, he holds memberships in the American Society of Biomechanics, the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Biomedical Engineering Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research.
