Volunteering at Henry Ford Hospice

Henry Ford Hospice offers volunteers:

The opportunity to provide services in the community they live in as an active participate in the IDT.

Opportunities for education locally and through state and national hospice organizations.

Supported guidance and encouragement through the volunteer.

Volunteers do not replace the professional staff but are a vital, integral part of the hospice program. They provide assistance to patients and their families that demonstrate their feelings of love and compassion. They also have the ability to empathize with the joys and sorrows inherent in life and death.

Volunteer roles

Volunteers can become involved in a variety of settings. Some examples, along with possible duties:

• In-home care: Provide respite care for primary care-giver, visit patients, light house cleaning, run errands
• Sandcastles Grief Support Program for Children and Families: Support group facilitator, program aide, fundraising committee, office operations, Speakers Bureau
• Nursing Home Services: Visit patients, offer comfort and support, assist with daily living activities
• Administrative Staff: Office operations, committee service, business development, fundraising, community education

Assignment of duties is determined by the Volunteer Coordinator or designee based upon his/her assessment of the volunteer and upon the patient and family needs identified by the hospice team members.
