H. Pylori Testing and Diagnosis

At Henry Ford Health, we offer diagnostic tests for H. pylori. Having an accurate diagnosis is the first step to creating a treatment plan for you.

Who should get tested for H. pylori?

Ask your doctor if you should get tested for H. pylori. You may need to be tested if you have:

  • Peptic ulcer disease (PUD)
  • A history of peptic ulcer disease
  • Long-term treatment with an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug)
  • Unexplained low iron levels

How is H. pylori diagnosed?

H pylori is diagnosed using one or more of the following:

  • Stool test
  • A urea breath test
  • Upper endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy, or EGD)
