HIV Program

The Division of Infectious Diseases is a nationally recognized center for state-of-the-art HIV care, and has provided services for more than 25 years. The HIV program provides patient care at Henry Ford Hospital, providing comprehensive HIV primary care to over 1200 adults living with HIV. The division receives Ryan White Part A funding for the primary care services they offer as well as early intervention services.

These funds support a multidisciplinary team approach to care, which includes:

  • Physicians
  • Advanced Practice Providers
  • HIV Pharmacist
  • Social Worker and Medical Case Management
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Therapist

In 2005, the division of Infectious Diseases expanded HIV testing and counselling services to the Department of Emergency Medicine. This program offers integrated counselling and testing for prevention of new HIV infections and connection to care for people living with HIV. This early connection to experts in the field enhances a patient's outcomes for prevention and treatment.

In 2024, Henry Ford Health brought Medical Case Management to Henry Ford Detroit which provides closer follow up for patients within 10 counties of Southeast Michigan that are struggling to maintain viral suppression. Adherence to treatment recommendations is the most important factor in maintaining viral suppression and preventing long term effects of HIV infection. For patients who struggle to maintain viral suppression or have greater needs, they may qualify for Medical Case Management.
