Creative Mindfulness With Art

These virtual sessions are intended for adults. Adults who wish to have their children attend with them is fine, but please note of the sensitive and emotional topics that may be discussed and may not be deemed appropriate for younger children.

NOTE: If no participants join the call/class within 15 minutes after the start time, the call/class will end.

To assist you in the virtual sessions, the descriptions and suggested supplies to have on hand are listed for each week. Sometimes a link to print a template is provided. Just click on the link below to view and print. 

6/8 and 6/9: Personal Compass
Supplies needed: paper, pens, pencils, or paint
Description: We will create a personal compass illustrating the directions we choose for the things that are important to us.

6/15: Self Compassion
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils or markers
Description: A visual reminder of the self compassion you want to practice.

6/22 and 6/23: Nature as Self-Care
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils or markers
Description: Taking a break in nature helps our brains recharge and refresh after a lot of stimulation. In this session we will listen to nature sounds and view images of nature as a way to reduce stress and recharge ourselves. We will create artwork as a reminder of the healing power of nature.

6/29 and 6/30: Progressive Relaxation
Supplies needed: (template optional), colored pencils or markers
Description: In this session we will visual represent the meditative process of relaxing ourselves from our toes to the top of our head

7/20 and 7/21: Feel Good Playlist
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils or markers, some of your favorite songs
Description: In this session we will choose a playlist of songs that make us feel good - music that brings us joy and good memories. Then we will create artwork to accompany our music playlist.

7/27 and 7/28: Wish Stars
Supplies needed: paper, pen, scissors
Description: We will be creating origami stars to hold our wishes and dreams for ourselves and the community.

8/3 and 8/4: Watercolor Painting to Music
Supplies needed: paper, paint and brush
Description: We will create an abstract painting while listening to music and focus on being present and relaxing

8/10 and 8/11: Peaceful Pond
Supplies needed: paper, pencil, colored pencils or markers
Description: In this session we will practice shifting our mindset from focusing on details to thinking about the bigger picture

8/17 and 8/18: Gravity
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils or markers
Description: Imagine how the planets orbit in space and how gravity keeps them from getting pushed out of orbit… In this session we will illustrate how we can feel the gravity of emotions from the people around us.

8/24 and 8/25: Stardust
Supplies needed: paper, colored pencils or markers, optional watercolor paint
Description: “We are made of star stuff” ~ Carl Sagan - In this session we will practice a breathing meditation and create artwork reflecting this.

The materials you should have ready for the classes are:

  • Paper- which may include any of the following: printer paper, drawing paper, old mail envelopes, paper bags, wrapping paper, etc.
  • Pencil
  • Pens
  • Markers
  • Colored pencils
  • Glue / glue stick
  • Magazine (to cut up for collage)
  • Pages from an old book (I can provide text to be printed at home for found poetry project)

All of the projects will be completed using items you probably already have on hand. We do not expect you to make large purchases for supplies. The Art Therapist will be able to assist you with modifications to the project with the materials you have.
