The Role and Importance of Spiritual Care in Healthcare
Participants will learn about the role of the Chaplain in the hospital and how the Chaplain benefits patients, caregivers, and employees.
About the speaker:
Charles Kibirige, MDiv., MA (Coun.), MA (EdLd.)., BCC. Charles is the current Henry Ford Hospital (HFH) Spiritual Care Supervisor and a member of faculty of Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine here at HFH. Charles joined HFH in December 2020 with over 17 years of ministry experience in healthcare. Charles started his career in healthcare with Trinity Health at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. After 11 years, Charles transferred to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital where he spent 6 years of ministry as a chaplain and department coordinator. During his time at St. Joseph’s, Charles developed a chaplaincy protocol for the COVID-19 pandemic and supported the implementation of Trinity Health’s Epic program as a “Super User” when it was first introduced.
Charles is a member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, and a Board-Certified Chaplain with the same body. Charles holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda and two Master of Arts Degrees with one in Educational Leadership and the other in Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Michigan University. Charles has a deep interest in Bioethics and is currently writing a peer reviewed article on an undisclosed subject in bioethics.
