Safe Kids Oakland County's Safe Sleep Program Virtual


Our Injury Prevention team and Safe Kids Oakland County are collaborating with Cribs for Kids to provide free safe sleep resources like Cribette play yard cribs to families in need.
To qualify, new or expecting parents and caregivers must attend an education session (virtually or in person) through Safe Kids Oakland County on safe sleep and provide proof of current enrollment in a qualifying program. Caregivers must also sign and submit a qualifying program affidavit to the Instructor during the safe sleep class or at time of pickup. This program is currently being offered to Oakland County residents only. Registered caregivers must complete the entire class to receive a free safe sleep item like portable crib, sleep sack, pacifier, and/or safe sleep board book.
Qualifying programs include:
- Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- Partnership. Accountability. Training. Hope. (PATH) cash assistance
- Refugee Assistance Program
- Children’s Special Health Care Services
- MI Child
- Head Start or Great Start
- Medicaid
- Children with Special Needs Fund
- Maternal Infant Health Provider (MIHP) services or other home visit program
- Native American Outreach Program Family Independence Programs
- Social Security/Disability
- Bridge Card/food assistance
- Emergency replacement after fire (fire report required)
- Court referral or other court document
- Proof of child in foster care by foster parent or reunification plan
Participants must register and quantities are limited. If you can no longer attend or complete the training and need to cancel, contact VMier1@hfhs.org ASAP so we may offer the crib to another family in need.
For virtual participants: After registering, an email from VMier1@hfhs.org will be sent to you with how to complete the training, including scheduling a pickup date/time. The class must be completed within 30 days of registering with Henry Ford Health. Pick up location is at Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital – Heart Institute (16001 W Nine Mile Rd, Southfield, MI 48075). Participants must bring their driver’s license, proof of qualification, and a vehicle to transport the crib home. Participants will also sign the affidavit at this time.
