Optometric Assistant Apprenticeship Program
A career path in eye care starts here
Looking to advance your career in healthcare? Henry Ford Health is offering an Optometric Assistant Apprenticeship to help you earn your certification. Under the guidance and direction of a Doctor of Optometry, Optometric Assistants build a strong understanding of the concepts used in optometric care, including performing preliminary testing for comprehensive eye exams and contact lens care.
Earn your Certified Paraoptometric credential
This 12-month apprenticeship includes in-house training within Henry Ford Health. Upon successful completion, you'll earn your Certified Paraoptometric certification — a nationally accredited credential through the American Optometric Association.
What it takes to apply
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to perform basic math skills
- Ability to accurately enter information in electronic medical records
- Ability to read and understand information presented in writing
- Ability to listen and understand information, and communicate clearly so others understand
- Previous patient care/customer service experience preferred
