Research and Support
Research is integral to the fellowship experience. Fellows receive 12 months of protected research time distributed across all three years, with the majority concentrated in the second year. Each fellow is expected to develop an independent, hypothesis-driven research project under the guidance of a faculty research mentor, culminating in a written thesis and formal defense as required by ABOG for subspecialty certification. Fellows have access to institutional research resources (Sladen Library and resources, scholarly writing and communication resources) and biostatistical support. Fellows are encouraged to present their work at regional and national meetings, including the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) Annual Meeting.
Mentorship
Upon entering the program, each fellow is paired with a dedicated faculty research mentor who guides them through the transition to fellowship and supports their development as independent investigators. This mentorship begins from day one, helping fellows identify research interests, navigate the institutional research infrastructure, and develop a trajectory for scholarly productivity.
