REACH Fitbit

REACH-Fitbit is a fun, new sub-study of REACH where participants receive wearable Fitbits to log physical activity, daily energy expenditure, and more!

Why REACH-Fitbit?

Fitbit ChargePhysical activity during pregnancy is associated with improved outcomes for both mom and baby. Benefits of physical activity include reduced risk of gestational diabetes or other pregnancy related complications and increased mood.

Wearables/Fitbits are breaking into the healthcare and research worlds by enabling continuous monitoring of activity, heart rate, sleep, and more! All of these things can be monitored without ever having to step foot in a doctor’s office. You would be helping doctors and scientists learn about better treatments, early interventions, and prevention efforts by contributing to high quality and more
accurate research data.

As a participant, you will be able to see your habits and activities represented on your personal dashboard. Even better, after the study you can continue monitoring your activity with the Fitbit as it will be yours to keep.

We are so excited about the interest we have already heard among our participants about using Fitbits and hope it continues to grow with the launch of this sub-study!

Eligibility

To be eligible for REACH-Fitbit you must:

  1. Have consented to participate in REACH
  2. Have reliable access to the internet and/or be willing to attend research visits where your data can be exported from Fitbit to our database

Samples

For the Fitbit sub study, you won’t have to self-collect any more samples than you already do for REACH!

Fitbit Appointments

If you need help with your Fitbit or to catch up with data syncs, our research team can assist you at pre-existing or new appointments.

Fitbit Charge 4

The Fitbit Charge 4 is one of Fitbit’s most advanced health trackers! With a charge lasting up to 7 days, the Charge 4 is one of the most convenient and reliable wearable fitness trackers. This device is able to monitor heart rate 24/7 and record movement reliably. This device is able to wirelessly sync data and links to an app on your phone where you can easily explore your results. The wearable watch is water resistant and can be worn in the shower, pool, or wherever else you desire. The Charge 4 will be given to participants with a charger and a comfortable wrist band.

Enrollment

To enroll in the study, you can mention REACH-Fitbitt to any REACH team members you come in contact with and they will note your interest. You may also be asked by a REACH team member if you would like to participate if you seem eligible. After interest and eligibility are established, you will move into the consent process- just like REACH! After this step, we will welcome you to REACH-Fitbit and get going on this fun and educational experience.

Privacy

Rest assured that your privacy is our priority. Movement tracking is for the sole purpose of getting activity levels and GPS data is not stored or tracked. GPS data is anonymous and not linked to you specifically. At the end of your participation in the study, the Fitbit is completely unlinked from the study and no information will be kept at that point.
