River District Hospital: Official updates and continuing your care

After a comprehensive evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to consolidate hospital operations at Henry Ford River District Hospital into nearby Henry Ford locations, effective September 1, 2026. The emergency department will remain open and fully staffed through 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2026. The building requires extensive infrastructure repairs and modernization that cannot sustainably support the standard of care our patients deserve.

Henry Ford River District Hospital has been a trusted place of care for generations of families. We are grateful to this community for its trust, and to the physicians, nurses and team members whose dedication has defined this hospital for decades.

Below is what is changing, what is staying, and where to go for the care you need.

What is staying on campus

Our primary care offices and infusion services on and near this campus will remain open. Your doctor, your appointments and your care continue as scheduled.

If you have an emergency

In a medical emergency, always call 9-1-1. Emergency responders will take you to the nearest appropriate emergency department. Beginning September 1, the closest Henry Ford emergency departments are:
