Nancy Schlichting Slated for Chairperson Appointment to Commission on Care

June 13, 2015

DETROIT – President Obama announced Friday he plans to appoint Henry Ford Health System CEO Nancy Schlichting as chairperson of the Commission on Care, which was established by Congress to examine how to best deliver health care to military veterans.

Schlichting is among three individuals slated for presidential appointment to the Commission on Care. The commission’s goal is to examine how best to strategically organize the Veterans’ Health Administration, locate health care resources and deliver care to veterans.

“These fine public servants bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their important roles,” President Obama said in a White House news release. “I look forward to working with them.”

Schlichting has served as CEO of Henry Ford since 2003. Under her leadership, the health system has experienced positive revenue growth for 12 consecutive years and was honored with a 2011 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, one of the most prestigious national awards for performance excellence.

In April, Schlichting was for the fourth time named one of the top 25 Women in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine, which honors executives in all fields of health care who are “an influential and powerful group of women who have gone above and beyond in leading their organization and employees to great heights.”
