DETROIT – Henry Ford Health President and CEO Bob Riney received this morning the prestigious honor of being named to Modern Healthcare’s list of the 100 Most Influential People of 2023.

According to the publication, the “prestigious recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential figures in the industry in terms of leadership and impact.”

Backed by a storied career with Henry Ford Health spanning 45 years, Riney is leading the health system at the most exciting time in its 108-year history. Henry Ford made national headlines throughout 2023, most recently with its October announcement of an agreement to enter a joint venture with Ascension Michigan that would bring together Ascension’s southeast Michigan and Genesys healthcare facilities and assets with Henry Ford’s.

Also making national headlines was the health system’s announcement in February, alongside key partners including the Detroit Pistons and the Gilbert Family Foundation, of a $3 billion investment to transform its academic healthcare campus in Detroit, including a major expansion of its flagship hospital, a 72-bed state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation facility with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, a research facility for its 30-year partnership with Michigan State University, and an infusion of commercial and residential development with much-needed green space.

“I’m deeply humbled and thankful to be included on this prestigious list, surrounded by some of the most innovative leaders in healthcare. And truly, this award is a reflection of our incredible team leadership and 33,000 amazing team members,” Riney said. “This is such a thrilling time to be leading this great organization, as we look to truly transform what it means to deliver healthcare to—and improve the health and wellness of—our entire community.”

Riney’s career-long passion for advocacy and community service, as well as his commitment to addressing systemic racial, economic, social, and clinical barriers that influence health, have shaped Henry Ford Health’s advocacy priorities at all levels of government. In addition to serving as a thought leader across healthcare and non-healthcare industries on issues including foundational commitments to health equity, eliminating workplace violence, and championing sustainability, Riney is also tackling several other issues spanning the healthcare spectrum.

“The 2023 honorees on our 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare reflect the providers, insurers, technology firms, government leaders, investors and others who have made oversized contributions to the industry in the past year,” said Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief of Modern Healthcare. “Our ranked list honors the C-suite decision-makers using their clout and influence to lead their organizations and make sweeping changes that affect patient care.”
