DETROIT (July 15, 2026) — Drivers should expect a detour near the section of West Grand Boulevard that runs in front of Henry Ford Hospital this weekend. The road will be closed from 6 p.m. on Friday, July 17, through 8 p.m., Sunday, July 19, just west of the Lodge Freeway. Crews working on Destination: Grand, Henry Ford Hospital’s campus expansion project, have a permit from the City of Detroit to close the boulevard while they install a new pedestrian bridge over the road.

The Detroit Department of Transportation bus stop in front of the hospital will also be closed during this period. Riders who use Route 16 and Route 42 may use the stops at West Grand Boulevard and Rosa Parks or West Grand Boulevard and Kipling as alternatives.

Partial lane closures will continue Monday, July 20 and intermittently through the summer.

The bridge will eventually connect Henry Ford Hospital’s existing building on the north side of West Grand Boulevard to the 20-story patient tower under construction on the south side of the street. The patient tower is the most visible portion of the hospital’s Destination: Grand campus expansion project that is transforming the century-old hospital campus.
