Care Philosophy

My philosophy of care is centered on providing compassionate, individualized and evidence-based treatment for every patient. I believe that surgery should be the last resort. I believe that successful neurosurgical care begins with listening carefully, understanding each patient’s unique concerns and building trust and open communication between myself and my patients.

Biographical Statement

Dr. Volkov is a board-certified neurosurgeon with Eastside Neurosurgery in Detroit, MI, providing care and treatments to patients suffering from brain tumors, spinal tumors, neurotrauma, and degenerative spinal disease.

Dr. Volkov earned his DO at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) and completed his comprehensive Neurological Surgery residency at Michigan State University. Dr. Volkov completed a Surgical Neuro-Oncology Fellowship at the University of South Florida, H. Lee Mofitt Cancer Center, Tampa Florida where his main focus was surgical neuro-oncology (brain and spine), with an emphasis on spinal degenerative disorders, reconstructive spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery as well as pain management procedures.

Clinical Interests

• Minimally invasive spine surgery for treatment of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar diseases including back pain, nerve pain, degenerative disease of the spine, deformity correction, and tumor pathology
• Motion preservation surgery utilizing artificial disc replacement techniques
• Open decompression treatments and fusion treatments for cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine
• Complex spine reconstruction for tumor, trauma, infection, and degenerative disease sacroiliac joint fusion
• RF Vertebral tumor ablations, kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty procedures
