Introduction to the Critical Care Environment Lines and Monitoring Equipment

This course is designed for physical and occupational therapists and assistants, and is meant to provide an overview of medical devices, lines, and oxygen devices you may encounter in the ICU. The course provides an introduction in to the purpose of each device and how its presence may impact your treatment as physical and occupational therapists.  In addition, this course will provide insight in to the benefits of utilizing an ICU competency for therapists training in this setting, and how it can increase therapist confidence and safety while managing the critically ill patient.

Course Objectives: Upon completing this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify the benefits of implementing an ICU competency program.
2. Identify and explain the purpose of invasive lines and the effects of each on the patient’s physical abilities.
3. Understand how the presence of various lines and tubes may impact physical or occupational treatments.

All funds collected are utilized for the development of acute care OT & PT education and research.

Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants

Credits: This course meets the criteria for 1.0 contact hours/CEUs, as approved by APTA Michigan, and qualifies for NBCOT PDUs. Please check with your state licensing body to determine if course is eligible for CEUs in your state.
