Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship

About the Program

The Henry Ford Hospital Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship is a one-year program designed to train emergency physicians to become leaders in point-of-care ultrasound. Established in 2010, it was the first emergency medicine clinical ultrasound fellowship in Michigan.

The program offers two fellowship positions each year. Fellows train at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, a Level 1 trauma center and quaternary care center with around 100,000 emergency department visits annually. Fellows develop advanced skills in clinical ultrasound, education, research, innovation and ultrasound administration.

Fellows work within a robust ultrasound division with active point-of-care ultrasound billing and quality assurance programs, integrated QPathE DICOM middleware, an ED resuscitative transesophageal echocardiography program and ED regional anesthesia support. The department also provides access to a state-of-the-art simulation center, the HERALD Lab and ultrasound innovation opportunities.

Mission Aims and Statement

The fellowship aims to prepare graduates to become expert clinical sonographers, skilled educators, productive researchers and effective leaders in clinical ultrasound. Fellows receive advanced training in bedside ultrasound while contributing to resident education, medical student education, quality assurance, program administration and scholarly work.
