Curriculum and Rotations

Clinical Curriculum

The one-year fellowship provides advanced training in core and expanded point-of-care ultrasound applications. Fellows are expected to complete 1,200 ultrasound scans during the training year and participate in quality assurance, image review, teaching, research and administrative activities.

Clinical Shifts

Fellows complete clinical shifts in the Henry Ford Hospital Emergency Department in a graded fashion across the year. The expected clinical schedule is generally six to eight shifts per month, with four shifts covered under the graduate medical education contract and additional shifts available as moonlighting.

Didactics

Fellows have dedicated time every Wednesday for ultrasound education. The curriculum includes an AEMUS lecture series designed to prepare fellows for the Focused Practice Designation exam and weekly image review with lunch.

Orientation Month

Orientation includes focused ultrasound scan shifts, the intern point-of-care ultrasound course, Navy Week, RYSE Med Program activities, a June resuscitative TEE course and a July cadaver regional anesthesia course.

Clinical Ultrasound Focus Areas

Training includes core emergency ultrasound applications as well as advanced experiences in resuscitative TEE, regional anesthesia, procedural guidance, quality assurance and ultrasound operations all with direct experience in our Emergency Department.

• Vascular lab rotation
• Regional anesthesia longitudinal experience
