Life as a Resident

Experiencing Detroit

Detroit is a diverse and vibrant city with something for everyone. We have several great museums, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Henry Ford Museum, and Motown Museum. There are four professional sports teams (Pistons, Red Wings, Lions, and Tigers) that play in downtown, all within a 10-minute drive from the hospital. Buy fresh, local produce year-round at the large farmers market held every Saturday at the historic Eastern Market or go out to the wide variety of restaurants, bars, and breweries the city has to offer. See visitdetroit.com for other attractions.

If you like the outdoors, Detroit has several parks in the city and borders on the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair, making it a great city for water sports. The state of Michigan as a whole has a number of great state parks, and the Upper Peninsula attracts tourists from around the country for its parks and nature. See the Michigan outdoor recreation guide for more information.
