Resident Requirements

Residents will be held responsible for meeting all ACGME General Surgery Review Committee educational requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting the required Goals & Objectives for each rotation. They must also meet the minimum case volume requirements by the end of their 5th year of training. Residents will effectively engage other members of the interdisciplinary team, act in a professional manner at all times, be involved in the education of junior residents and students and pursue scholarly activity in research and quality pursuits.

A. Each Resident will submit a written "Service Evaluation" at the end of each month's rotation.

B. Completion of Logs in accordance with American Board of Surgery ACGME.

C. Participation in the ABSITE In-Service examination on a yearly basis.

D. Satisfactory completion of the COMLEX 3/ USMLE STEP 3 examination prior to progressing into the PGY-2 year of training

E. Fulfillment of the ACGME Scholarly Activity requirement

F. Participate in all required program and faculty evaluations.

G. Attendance at Department of Surgery education programs

H. Participation in teaching and education of students and other trainees on the surgical services.

I. Residents must obtain a Michigan Educational Limited License.

J. Participation in hospital staff committees as assigned.

K. Attendance at Tumor Board Committee and presentations

L. Residents are strongly encouraged to apply for assistant professorship at MSUCOM.

M. Certification BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS, FLS & FES.
