Henry Ford Ranked in 27 Medical Specialties in "Best Hospitals"

July 16, 2014

DETROIT – Henry Ford Health System hospitals were ranked in 27 medical specialties by U.S. News and World Report’s annual Best Hospitals survey.

The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in its 27th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital had the largest number (11) of specialties ranked.

Among the four hospitals in the Henry Ford Health System, the specialties ranked as high-performing are:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiology & Heart Surgery
  • Diabetes & Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
  • Geriatrics
  • Gynecology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Pulmonology
  • Urology

Other hospitals in the health system that had medical specialties ranked included Henry Ford Wyandotte, Henry Ford Macomb and Henry Ford West Bloomfield.
Hospitals that are not nationally ranked in a specialty but have scores in the top 25 percent of the analyzed centers are recognized as high-performing.

A hospital that is ranked or high-performing in at least one specialty is further recognized as among the Best Regional Hospitals within its state and metro area or similar region.

U.S. News bases the rankings largely on objective data on hospital performance, such as patient survival rates and resources like nurse staffing. Each hospital's reputation, as determined by a survey of physician specialists, is also a factor.
