Henry Ford Health System Appoints New Executive Vice President & Chief Clinical Officer

After a nationwide search, Henry Ford Health System has selected its own Adnan Munkarah, M.D., to be the health system’s new Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer.

Dr. Munkarah is responsible for enhancing quality of care, comprehensive healthcare delivery, and patient safety while exceeding patient’s expectations of the overall care experience. He will oversee the development and achievement of strategic goals for medical staff development and engagement, patient care services and programmatic services consistent with the overall strategic direction of the health system. Additionally, Dr. Munkarah will partner with the Henry Ford Medical Group leadership to help further develop the health system’s population health and accountable care strategies.

Dr. Munkarah previously served as Chairman, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Women’s Health and Chief Medical Officer of Henry Ford Hospital & Health Network. He is also a research scientist within the Department of Public Health Sciences and a professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology in the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

A department chair since he joined Henry Ford in 2008, Dr. Munkarah is highly regarded among his colleagues as a physician, scientist, teacher and leader. He has been published in many scholarly journals with more than 145 peer reviewed articles and 15 book chapters. He has presented at more than 100 seminars and lectures, served on national professional committees, and is a recipient of numerous awards.

Dr. Munkarah graduated from the American University of Beirut Medical School with distinction and completed residencies in Internal Medicine and Obstetrics/Gynecology at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He has completed leadership training at Harvard School of Public Health as well as Weatherhead School of Management and has received a Certified Physician Executive Diploma from the American Association of Physician Executives in 2016.
