Henry Ford Health System Offers Free Childhood Immunizations at School Based Health Centers
DETROIT (Nov. 18, 2020) – The Department of Pediatrics at Henry Ford Health System is offering free immunizations at several of its School Based and Community Health Program locations for children ages 10-21 years old. Parents will not only have the opportunity to get their children up-to-date on the immunizations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), but also to learn more about the importance of these childhood immunizations.
Immunizations are one of the most effective ways parents can protect infants, children and teens from several harmful diseases that can be very serious or potentially fatal. Because getting CDC-recommended immunizations is vitally important, the Henry Ford Health System Pediatrics team has implemented safety precautions to allow children to get their immunizations safely while mitigating the risk of COVID-19 – even as the following school sites are closed for in-person learning as part of the Department of Health’s 3-week pause.
Immunizations will be offered on the following days and times at these schools:
- Thursday, November 19 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Samuel C. Mumford High School, 17525 Wyoming Ave, Detroit, MI 48221
- Wednesday, December 9 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Fitzgerald High School, 23200 Ryan Road, Warren, MI 48091
- Thursday, December 17 from 1 – 5 p.m.
- Mt. Clemens Middle School, 155 Cass Ave, Mt Clemens, MI 48043
Among the safety precautions implemented, the Henry Ford team will provide a socially distanced waiting area with seats and common areas disinfected after each patient. The team will also minimize the number of patients seen at one time and offer additional outdoor waiting options for patients and families. Masks will be worn at all times by Henry Ford staff and will be required for parents, family members and patients ages 5 years and older.
Patients may be pre-registered ahead of the event, or register onsite. Those who pre-register will undergo a COVID-19 screening and be given resources for testing referral if they screen positive. Those who choose to register onsite will also be required to undergo a COVID-19 screening, which includes a temperature check, mask wearing for patients and families, and hand sanitizing. If a patient or family member screens positive, they will be directed to testing locations and the immunizations will be deferred to an alternative time.
Patients who receive immunizations at these clinics will also be given a complimentary box of groceries, provided by Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.
To pre-register for one of these immunization clinics, please call (313) 416-7467 for Mumford, (586) 759-9070 for Fitzgerald, or (586) 461-3363 for Mt. Clemens.
