Henry Ford Health Announces New President for Health Alliance Plan

(Detroit) – Henry Ford Health announced today that Margaret Anderson, interim president of Health Alliance Plan (HAP), will assume the permanent role of President, HAP – effective immediately.

Under Anderson’s leadership, HAP made an impressive turnaround in 2024, surpassing goals for both member growth and financial stewardship. Now serving 476,000 members across Michigan,

HAP closed the year with a net income of $32.4 million, including operating income of $6.7 million, reflected in the company’s March 2025 release of its audited financial performance results. 

“Not only is Margaret a dynamic and visionary leader, but she has also been a strong and consistent consumer advocate for our members and the broader communities we serve,” said Robin Damschroder, Henry Ford Health’s President, Value-Based Enterprise and Chief Financial Officer. “There’s never been a more critical time for all of us to work together to improve health and wellbeing and reduce the cost of care for all – and Margaret is well positioned to be part of this collective effort.”

With a relentless focus on improving member experience and outcomes, Anderson led the charge to transform tools and technologies to better serve HAP members while expanding its network of service providers that members can access across Michigan. That expansion added 15 new hospitals and more than 1,300 healthcare providers to its network, reflecting HAP’s commitment to enhancing access to underserved regions of the state. Anderson also oversaw the 2023 launch of the HAP CareSource joint venture to help Michiganders gain access to high quality care through a combined Medicaid offering and re-entry to the Health Care Marketplace.

Anderson has more than 25 years in the healthcare industry, across all insurance market segments including large and small employer groups, government programs, and individual sales. Before joining HAP in 2018 as its Senior Vice President, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Anderson held several prominent roles with organizations including BlueShield of California, WellCare Health Plans and HealthNow New York – and has also served in multiple industry leadership forums including board membership with the Alliance of Community Health Plans.
