Family Ties Attract New Hospital President to Macomb County

Clinton Township, Mich. — Emily Moorhead, a proven leader within Henry Ford Health with longstanding ties to the Macomb County community, is now leading Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. She stepped into the role of hospital president on July 1.

Highly regarded for empowering staff and cultivating a positive and supportive workplace culture, Moorhead comes to the Clinton Township hospital from Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, where she served as president and chief operating officer for more than five years. Prior to joining Henry Ford Health, Moorhead served in senior leadership roles at Detroit Medical Center, Trinity Health, and GE Healthcare.

“I’m thrilled to be here at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital—which truly feels like home to me,” Moorhead said. “I look forward to growing relationships in the community and working alongside our dedicated and talented team members, who give their all every day in providing the very best healthcare to our patients.”

Moorhead knows Macomb County well, visiting often for family gatherings at Ernie’s restaurant in Clinton Township, including for her own wedding reception.

“My maiden name is Backos. My Uncle Ernie founded the restaurant, and my cousins still operate it, along with several other businesses in Macomb County,” she said. 

Moorhead brings a powerful blend of scientific understanding and strategic business insight to her new role. She earned a degree in chemistry from Michigan State University and studied strategy and organizational development as she earned an MBA from the University of Michigan.

She is just the right person to guide Henry Ford Macomb Hospital into its next chapter.”

The hospital at 15855 19 Mile Road employs approximately 4,200 team members and physicians, who provide comprehensive acute and tertiary care. Specialty services include a heart & vascular institute, a comprehensive joint replacement center, Henry Ford Cancer services, a women's health center, and a birthing center that features 18 labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites.
