Biographical Statement
Dr. Richard Berri serves as the Chief of Surgical Oncology and Director of the Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) Program at Henry Ford St. John Hospital and served as the clinical lead dyad for cancer services previously for Ascension Michigan. He has over 10 years of experience treating patients in the metro Detroit area and beyond. He is a graduate of Wayne State University Medical School and completed his Surgical Oncology fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, in 2010.
Dr. Berri's clinical and surgical expertise focuses on all abdominal malignancies, liver, pancreas, stomach, colorectal, bile duct, small bowel, appendix, sarcomas in the abdomen, and any complicated or metastatic intra-abdominal cancer. He has a particular interest in the surgical management of peritoneal cancer--cancer that has spread to the lining of the abdomen that originates from the appendix, colon, ovary, or any other site. He began the JFW GI Cancer Program at Van Elslander Cancer Center and also created the first comprehensive HIPEC program in Michigan. Through his leadership, the HIPEC program at Henry Ford St. John Hospital is nationally recognized and draws patients from around the U.S.
Dr. Berri has performed over 500 Cytoreductive/HIPEC surgeries at Henry Ford St. John Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology. He has published numerous articles on his work and offers a multidisciplinary, high quality, patient centered approach to his surgical care.
