This was a very uncomfortable experience for me. I scheduled a physical with a new provider and I needed a refill on my antidepressant (bupropion). I've struggled with chronic illness my entire life (just turned 45) and had a good relationship with my previous doctors, who ran tests to eliminate potential underlying causes and recommended next steps for me to pursue when I moved to MI. I've also been dealing with long Covid, confirmed by my previous doctor. When I attempted to explain my medical history, Dr. Carolan talked down to me and talked over me, misunderstood what I had to say, asked for the wrong information (site of childhood event rather than the location of my last doctor) and then got frustrated with me when I wasn't able to tell her what medical center I went to in the 1980s when I was under the age of 10. She also did not ask how I am doing with my current antidepressant (very well, but still) or ask me what supplements I am taking to support my health although I made sure to mention that I am taking some. She also seemed frustrated when I asked her to consider follow-up tests recommended by my previous provider (although she did request records of previous tests) and informed me that her goal was to manage symptoms, not discover causes. Overall, she seemed very rushed and disconnected. It's possible she had something scheduled right after my appointment (although I arrived 20 minutes early), as I saw her waving goodbye to the receptionist when I was filling out a records request after my appointment. Finally, my pharmacy just informed me that although they were notified last week about my refill, she still has not confirmed the prescription (I let her know that I was almost out of buproprion at my appointment). I realize that my new insurance probably made a mistake in sending me to family medicine instead of internal medicine, and I should have caught that, but surely this doctor has seen adult patients and is familiar with some of the issues faced by people with chronic illness.

She was knowledgeable, helpful and respectful.

It was a positive experience and I was able to get in quickly and receive the care I needed.
