Timothy M Dekker, MD

Biographical Statement

Timothy Dekker, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship trained sports medicine physician. He was raised locally in Shelby Township and earned his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. He then went to medical school at Wayne State University.

Dr. Dekker completed his residency training at the nationally top-ranked Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. He then pursued advance training at the #1 rated Orthopedic Institute in the US at the Hospital for Special Surgery where he specialized in Sports Medicine. During this time, he served as a team physician for the New York Giants and New York Mets.

Dr. Dekker began his career in family medicine before transitioning to sports medicine, bringing a broad, holistic perspective as a family medicine physician into his orthopedic practice. Dr. Dekker emphasizes non-operative treatment when possible, utilizing individualized physical therapy treatments, injections, and advanced biologic therapies like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to promote healing and work towards bringing his patients back to their desired level of activity.

Care Philosophy

My passion in medicine is to help patients overcome pain and injury so that they can return to feeling and functioning at their best. I focus on minimally invasive, patient-centered treatments through the utilization of physical therapy, nutrition, medications, and injections to restore a patient's health. During my time practicing family medicine, I noticed connections between pain and activity levels and the effect this had on my patients' overall health which inspired me to pursue specialized training in sports medicine. I strive to not only treat injuries and chronic conditions, but to identify and address these early on, helping patients stay active, healthy, and take part in the activities they enjoy.
