Urogynecology stresses the treatment of the whole patient, and all the pelvic conditions a patient has - not just the thing that is "most broken." I really value the patient's goals, because not everybody wants or needs surgery. If surgery is needed, we'll plan the most minimally invasive and long-lasting approach that meets your long-term goals.

Biographical Statement

Dr. Woodman is an experience urogynecologist and reconstructive pelvic surgeon and physician educator from Royal Oak, MI. He was the first graduate of the US Army's ACGME-accredited fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington - now housed in Washington DC at the prestigious Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He has been an educator for 25 years and has taught at all levels: from 1st year of medical school, through post-doctoral Urogynecology fellows. He is a faculty member for Henry Ford St. John Hospital's and Henry Ford Warren Hospital's OBGYN residencies and for Henry Ford Hospital's urogynecology fellowship.

Dr. Woodman is an expert in the vaginal approach to reconstructive surgery but offers a board set of laparoscopic and abdominal choices, as well.  Dr. Woodman is a Fellow (and past-President) the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians & Gynecologists. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Urogynecology Society, the International Continence Society, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons.

Research Interests

Dr. Woodman has published more than 40 scientific journal articles, book chapters, and many award-winning videos. Dr. Woodman also holds a Masters in Clinical Research from Indiana University. Dr. Woodman's research interests include pelvic organ prolapse, the POP-Q exam, and the teaching of surgical skills w/ inanimate models.

Awards and Honors

Dr. Woodman has been honored with a variety of clinical and research honors over his 25 year career. He received "Top Doc" honors from Hour Magazine in 2018, and has twice received APGO / CREOG National Faculty Award. He is an expert referee for a number of prestigious OBGYN and Urogynecology journals and serves on the Editorial Board of OB.Gyn.News. He is a US Army veteran and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a surgeon. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 2 stars. Dr. Woodman is a Past-President of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians & Gynecologists.
