Substance Abuse Professional (SAP)/ U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)

Most employers recognize the value of maintaining a drug free workplace and offering treatment options for employees abusing drugs in the workplace.

Many of our client companies must follow regulations set forth by the Department of Transportation (DOT) during the normal course of providing their services and products. Consequently, certain protocols must be adhered to and delivered by professionals with specialized credentials in order to remain in compliance. One such protocol is in the assessment and treatment of any individual who is in violation of the DOT regulations. In these circumstances, the employee must be referred to a professional who has completed the qualification requirements of the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).

Henry Ford ENHANCE is positioned to assist any organization to remain in compliance with regulating bodies while providing the best possible benefits for their employees. Henry Ford ENHANCE counselors who have successfully completed the SAP “Qualification Exam” have valuable experience working with the DOT regulations as well as interfacing effectively with the EAP. This allows for proper communication with Management, Human Resources, Medical Departments and Medical Review Officers (MRO).

Henry Ford ENHANCE SAP’s understand their role as a designated “service agent” and will work with you to ensure compliance with DOT Regulation 49CFR Part 40 provisions with knowledge and understanding of the rules of the agencies for which they are providing services. The SAP will fulfill their role in determining the level of drug and/or alcohol use or abuse; making recommendations for substance abuse treatment and/or education; monitoring the offenders' compliance; and advising on follow-up testing programs for future monitoring.
