What are hospital charges?
Hospital charges are charges for services performed at one of our Henry Ford hospitals, or a hospital outpatient department. Many of our locations are extensions of our hospitals and may generate hospital charges.
What are professional charges?
Professional charges are typically from physicians and other providers. We include the professional charges in estimates when the clinician is an employee of Henry Ford Health System. We have a large group of employed physicians, so many of our estimates will include these types of charges.
What is included in my estimate?
In most cases, your estimate includes hospital and professional charges that are based upon the most common tests and procedures performed with your service, specific to your insurance plan. Your actual charges may be higher or lower depending on whether additional services are performed, if your medical condition changes or if complications occur.
I have insurance. How can I tell what I will have to pay out-of-pocket?
When you are creating the estimate, you will be able to enter your primary insurance information and receive an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs based upon information we receive from your insurance company.
The online estimate tool will only consider your primary insurance information. Please contact the Pricing Department for assistance with calculating out-of-pocket costs if you have multiple insurance plans.
What if I have questions about my estimate; or feel that the estimated out-of-pocket seems incorrect?
Insurance companies send us real-time benefit information to create your estimate. If you feel something is missing — like coinsurance, copay or deductible, please call the Pricing Department at (888) 455-2678 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Representatives can verify insurance details, and ensure you received the best estimate possible.
Why do I have to choose a location of service?
It is important to choose the correct location of service because different locations can have unique pricing structures and payor contracts. In order to ensure we give you the best estimate possible, we recommend you determine your location of service prior to generating the estimate.
My location isn't listed; which location should I choose?
- If you have a service scheduled for a facility named "Henry Ford Medical Center," use the "Henry Ford Hospital" link.
- If your service is scheduled at Brownstown Health Center, use the “Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital” link.
- If your service is scheduled at a facility whose name begins with “Henry Ford Macomb Health Center,” use the “Henry Ford Macomb Hospital link
- If your service is scheduled at a facility whose name begins with “Henry Ford Allegiance Health Center,” use the Henry Ford Allegiance Health link.
Are all the procedures available at all locations?
No. Not all procedures listed will be available to schedule at all Henry Ford locations. When you are ready to schedule your procedure, you may request an appointment and our scheduling team will be more than happy to assist you with finding the best location for service.
Does the estimate ensure that the service is a covered benefit?
No, the estimate does not ensure that the service is a covered benefit of your insurance plan. Please check your benefits or contact your insurance plan prior to scheduling.
Does the estimate guarantee payment for the service?
No, depending on the service, your insurance plan may require a prior authorization. If a prior authorization is required, Henry Ford will work with your insurance plan to obtain the required authorization.
Will I need to get a referral for my service?
In some cases, your insurance plan may not be contracted with your selected Henry Ford location to perform your service. To ensure that you will not need a referral, you should contact your insurance plan prior to scheduling. You can check if your plan is contracted with a Henry Ford location by browsing insurance plans we accept.
I want to get an estimate for an office visit, but I'm not sure which level to choose.
There are different levels of office visits based upon the complexity of the care provided. Levels 3 and 4 are the levels that are most frequently performed.
I am having an imaging study done but am not sure if it is going to be with IV contrast or not.
Your doctor's order for the exam will indicate whether it should be performed with IV contrast or not. If you are unsure, you should contact your doctor's office.
The estimate on my Insurance website is different than this estimate. Why?
The insurance company is likely using a different methodology to create estimates, and often display “average” costs, and “average” patient responsibilities. If you have questions about your estimate or how it was created, you can call the Pricing Department at (888) 455-2678 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Financial options for international patients
Pricing for our international patients depends on our review of your medical records. Learn how to submit medical records.
International patients are responsible for a $1,000 fee for reviewing medical records. This fee is nonrefundable. However, if you decide to travel to Henry Ford for care, we’ll subtract this fee from your total cost of care.
We currently accept only U.S. insurance plans and do not accept any form of international insurance.
We accept the following forms of payment from our international patients:
- Cash (U.S. currency only)
- Cashier’s checks
- Credit cards
- Wire transfers
