Visitor Expectations at Henry Ford Health

When visiting a loved one in the hospital or other Henry Ford Health, location, please follow these expectations:

  • Visitors will not physically or verbally threaten any person.
  • Weapons are not permitted.
  • Visitors will step out of the patient’s room if requested to by the healthcare team.
  • Visitors will not be impaired or intoxicated.
  • Visitors will not consume alcohol, drugs or tobacco on any Henry Ford Health system campus.
  • Visitors will keep noise levels low to provide a quiet environment for our patients to rest.
  • Visitors may not use the patient’s bathroom, including the shower, or lie down in the patient’s bed due to infection control risks.
  • If a patient is in isolation, the patient’s care team will educate visitors about precautions. Visitors must follow their instructions.
  • Visitors should wash or sanitize their hands frequently and when entering and exiting a patient’s room.
  • After hours or overnight visitation may be allowed if approved by the patient’s healthcare team in advance. Approval may be removed if the visitor violates the visitor expectations.
  • Visitors must be over 12 years of age. Visitors under age 18 must always be accompanied by an adult. Review the visitor guidelines for exceptions, then select the hospital you plan to visit for additional information.

Violation of visitation expectations

  • Failure to follow visitor expectations can result in visitation limitations or restrictions up to and including possible termination of visitation rights as per the Public Health Statute Act 368 of 1978 (Health Code Policy 333.20201).
  • A visitor may be restricted from Henry Ford Health facilities for threats or acts of violence toward a patient, another visitor or employees, disruptive behavior, carrying any type of weapon, use of or transporting illegal substances to the patient, or arriving impaired due to drug or alcohol use.
