Wilderness Medicine Track

Developing adaptable emergency physicians through experiential learning, outdoor leadership, and medicine in resource-limited environments.

Emergency medicine often requires physicians to make critical decisions with limited resources, challenging environments, and evolving circumstances. Our longitudinal Wilderness Medicine Track introduces residents to the principles of wilderness and environmental medicine while fostering leadership, education, conservation, and experiential learning. Through hands-on experiences, simulation, scholarly activity, and mentorship, residents develop the knowledge and confidence to care for patients beyond the traditional hospital setting while gaining skills that enhance everyday emergency medicine practice. The track also provides a strong foundation for residents interested in pursuing the Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) distinction or a future Wilderness Medicine fellowship.
