Donate Your Hair to Help Children with Hair Loss
DETROIT —The Henry Ford Department of Dermatology, partnering with Fringe Salon, will host a Cut-A-Thon Fundraiser Wednesday, April 18, to benefit children suffering from hair loss.
The cut-a-thon and evening of pampering will take place from 5:30 - 7: 00 pm, at Fringe Salon, located at 33000 Northwestern Highway, West Bloomfield.
Hair and monetary donations will go to support the Michigan-based national non-profit, Children With Hair Loss (CWHL) which provides customized human hair replacements at no cost to children with any medically-related hair loss, such as alopecia, trichotillomania, cancer and burns.
“We hope that the community will come make donations, and also take the opportunity to learn about the devastating effects hair loss can have on a child’s self-esteem,” says Marla, Jahnke, M.D., a pediatric dermatologist at Henry Ford Health System.
Dr. Jahnke, other Henry Ford dermatologists and a CWHL representative will be present to answer questions.
Hair donations must be clean and dry and be a minimum of eight inches in length. Colored and gray hair donations are accepted.
Attendees will be able to pamper themselves with haircuts, blowouts and manicure services, available at reduced rates during the event.
The cut-a-thon is the second event organized by Dr. Jahnke to raise donations and awareness about children’s hair loss.
