DETROIT (February 10, 2022) – Three community leaders will bring their experience and expertise to Henry Ford Health System’s Board of Directors. With health care innovation, financial management and higher-education leadership backgrounds, the new board members represent the future of the organization, setting the Board of Directors on a course for continued leadership and financial oversight.
The new members include Daniel J. Phelan, Ph.D., President and CEO of Jackson College, James O. Peabody, M.D., senior staff member of the Vattikuti Urology Institute (VUI) at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, and Jacalyn Goforth.

Dr. Phelan has been President and CEO of Jackson College (MI) since 2001. He is board chairman of the Community College Center for Student Engagement and serves on the boards of the League for Innovation in the Community College, the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, the Higher Education Research and Development Institute, and the Michigan Community College Association. He is the past chairman of the Board of Directors for the American Association of Community Colleges. His continuous innovation, quality, service, and vision for an improved future of student success has continued to define Phelan’s contribution to the community college movement.
Dr. Peabody specializes in robotic prostate surgery. His areas of expertise include urologic oncology and robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy. Along with the VUI team, he assisted with the development of the Institute’s robotic surgery program.
Goforth is a retired CPA with 34 years of experience as an Auditor, partner, and past market team leader of the Detroit Private Company Services Assurance Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers. In addition to her new board role, she serves as Chair of the Board of HAP and on the Alumni Board of Central Michigan University and previously served as a participating member of the Henry Ford Health System audit and finance committees, Chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee of HAP, and as an executive committee member, treasurer, and chair of the Audit and finance committee for TechTown Detroit.
