Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Appreciation Hour Team

It's not every day that a professional basketball player visits Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. But on Monday, June 9, professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons, Ron Holland, stopped by to meet with two of our hometown heroes: our Food and Nutrition Services and Environmental Services & Patient Transportation teams.

We scored big with our team members. In just this year alone, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital is leading the system for the past 12 months in Food Quality, making us one of the top performers in Courtesy of Person Serving Food. Food and Nutrition Services, led by Beth Tata, Manager of Food and Nutrition Services has worked closely with other departments including our Transformation Consultant and Care Experience to dramatically improve patient experience and operational metrics.

This year, patient kitchen served 117,477 trays with an average delivery time of 46 minutes. They've successfully shaved down 12 minutes from June of 2024! Our Food and Nutrition team members have seen 4,888 patients and the café has served 5,6198 guests. These metrics are proof that showing up day in and day out, providing our patients with nourishing meals, is making a real difference.

The EVS team is no different. Under the leadership of Amy Stromik, Manager of Environmental Services & Patient Transportation, the Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital EVS team leads the system in Cleanliness of Hospital and Courtesy of Person Cleaning Your Room this year to date and in 2024.

In 2025, EVS completed approximately 13,000 bed cleans with a turnaround time of 99 minutes. Our transport team members completed approximately 37,000 transports with an average turnaround time -- without delays – of 14 minutes, this year to date.

These are no small feats! So, to show our appreciation for all their hard work, we held an appreciation hour for our Food Services and EVS teams. We kicked the day off with a visit between Holland and the Food Services team, where Holland learned about the different accomplishments within the hospital, toured the facilities, and delivered lunch to a patient.

EVS team members also met with Holland during a team gathering in their breakroom. The team participated in a raffle drawing where they got autographed posters and company merchandise. Each team took pictures, won prizes, and shared stories of their love for Detroit basketball.

While there are no events, that can fully express just how grateful we are for our team members, we hope the opportunity to connect with a Ron Holland brought a smile to their faces and showed our appreciation for the extraordinary care they provide. Both teams are so well deserving of the recognition.
