Genesys Hospital Remains Focused on Patient Care as Teamsters Strike Reaches 150 Days

GRAND BLANC, Mich. —  Henry Ford Genesys Hospital representatives and Teamsters leaders are meeting regularly and engaging in constructive and respectful dialogue as the parties work towards a resolution to the indefinite Teamsters Local 332 strike, which hits the 150-day mark tomorrow.

The parties have met more than 70 times since April 2025 to negotiate a contract for nurses represented by the Teamsters. Another meeting is expected to be scheduled in the near future.

Since the strike began on September 1, 2025, hundreds of Genesys Hospital team members have been working diligently to provide safe, superior care for the Genesee County community. During these 150 days:

• More than 15,745 people have been treated in the Emergency Department;
• Doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals have performed more than 3,400 surgeries and cared for more than 5,500 inpatients;
• And more than 500 babies have been born at the hospital. 

“We are extremely grateful to the hundreds of team members that faithfully provide the high-quality care we are known for,” said Henry Ford Genesys Hospital Interim President Gwen Sandefur. “We are hopeful about the prospect of a Teamsters contract that helps us continue to run the hospital in the safe, efficient way Henry Ford Health patients and team members expect and deserve.”

As negotiations continue, Genesys leaders remain focused on reaching a contract that recognizes, values, recruits, and retains nurses and maintains the exceptional care Henry Ford Health hospitals across the region are known for, all the while ensuring the long-term financial stability of the non-profit hospital.
