Vice Chair Operation Service Line Orthopedics, Associate clinical professor Wayne State University
Philosophy
My goal is to return patients to their active lifestyle by delivering excellent sports medicine care and using minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery when needed. I have special interests in tendon and ligament surgeries trying to preserve the natural function of the injured joint.
I am a lifelong Michigan resident. I was born in Lapeer, Michigan, and raised in Swartz Creek, a suburb of Flint. I was an athlete in high school, powerlifting and playing football and would have continued sports in college, however, at 5 foot nothing and a hundred and nothing pounds, I had no scholarship offers.
I chose to attend the University of Michigan Flint and matriculated with two BS degree one in Biology and one in Chemistry. I taught chemistry principles as an instructor for Kettering University. I left Kettering for Wayne State University School of Medicine graduating with AOA honors as a senior. I completed a five-year residency at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, Michigan and finished my graduate medical education during a one-year fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Cincinnati Sports Medicine in Ohio.
I have been dedicated to sports medicine since joining Henry Ford in 2007. I have taken care of all levels of athletes and currently serve as team physician to University of Detroit Mercy, formerly with Marygrove College and Macomb Community College. I continue to be active in the community serving as a team physician for Fraser High School. I educate orthopedic residents and sports medicine fellowship physicians at Henry Ford Health, training the next generation of orthopedic surgeons.
I strive to improve patient care and the safe, rapid return of the injured athlete to the playing field. Professionally, I am a member of Michigan Orthopedic Society, American Society of Sports Medicine, and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. I am board certified in orthopedic and sports medicine surgery.
