Mobile Mammography at Henry Ford Health

Utilizing convenient and comfortable mobile mammography, we screen for early stage breast cancer by providing 3D mammograms to women at various locations in Michigan.

Bringing state-of-the-art mammography to all women

We know that taking time off work and driving to a hospital or imaging center for a routine breast exam can be inconvenient. We also know that most women want to take good care of themselves and have a mammogram according to their doctor’s recommendations.

This is why we offer multiple mobile mammography buses that are staffed by the same highly skilled and caring health professionals who work in our hospitals. Our fleet of Mobile Mammography units provide the latest in 3D mammography, along with traditional 2D mammography, at a location that’s convenient for you. The mobile mammography buses travel to Henry Ford sites that do not have breast screening technology, community events, churches and businesses. Our mobile mammography vans are designed for women’s comfort and privacy with attractive waiting rooms, changing rooms and exam rooms.

3D Mobile Mammography

3D mammography (formally called digital breast tomosyntheses or DBT) takes low-dose X-ray images of the breast from several angles. These images are combined to create a three-dimensional image of the breast. The process is noninvasive, and the technology looks and feels similar to traditional mammography. However, the advanced technology helps radiologists visualize the details in dense breast tissue to detect breast cancer earlier.

DBT captures precise and clearer images of breast tissue. It reduces the number of false-positive results and minimizes extra appointments for women.
We recommend that women age 40 and older have a mammogram every year for as long as they are in good health. Following these recommendations increase the chances of early detection, which is important for successful cancer treatment.

Anthony L. Soave Mobile Mammography

We strive to make life-saving screenings available to everyone. The Anthony L. Soave mobile mammography unit is supporting this mission by making mammograms accessible to those in metro Detroit, including the uninsured and under-insured.

The traveling mammogram service visits community and workplace events throughout the year. Approximately, 75% of our screenings are completed in the community (Federally Qualified Health Centers, Community Service Organizations, churches, etc.). The unit screens within the Detroit city limits and in Wayne, Macomb and Oakland Counties.

When it is not scheduled at community events, it is stationed at 46591 Romeo Plank Rd in Macomb, where appointments can be scheduled on-line or by calling 844-757-6266. You can call for more information about financial assistance as well. You will need a referral from your doctor before you schedule at this location.
