Affording Your Medicine

  • I have prescription insurance, but still struggle to afford my medications
    • I have private insurance
      • Look for your preferred medication list for your insurance company
        • Make sure your medicine is on the preferred list
        • If you have difficulty finding the medicine list, contact your insurance company to obtain one
    • Coupons
      • Check the manufacturer website to see if they offer a coupon.  If you don’t know who the manufacturer is, ask a pharmacist

  • I have government insurance
    • Medicaid insurances
      • Look for your preferred medication list for your insurance company
      • Make sure your medicine is on the preferred list
        • Prescription drugs that your insurance provides benefits for

  • Medicare insurance
    • You may be eligible to sign up for additional prescription insurance

    • Contact them at: 1-800-318-2596 
  • If you can’t afford co-pays with your Medicare Part D
    • Contact your Social Security office for additional information about dual enrollment
    • Visit the patient access network website at https://www.panfoundation.org/
  • If you are currently in the “coverage gap” or “donut hole” with Medicare Part D
    • Contact your doctor for more information on patient assistance programs.

  • I do not have prescription insurance
    • You may be eligible to sign up for insurance with prescription coverage

    • Visit a community partner of Henry Ford Health System: CHASS
      • CHASS is a community health and social services center that can assist patients to cover some of their prescription medications cost
