Advanced sports science and personalized training help local athlete restore mobility, build strength and propel his comeback story

DETROIT – When former Plymouth High School basketball standout Anthony Crump takes the court at NBA G League tryouts this September he’ll be backed by years of training at Henry Ford Health Sports Performance, where a combination of cutting-edge technology and personalized training helped him recover from multiple injuries and prepare for a professional career.
Crump, 25, has spent the last four years working with Jennifer Burnham, M.A., AT, ATC, athletic trainer at Henry Ford Health Sports Performance. Burnham and her team guided Crump through an intensive program focused on mobility, strength, agility and explosive endurance by using advanced tools such as motion capture, force plates, and AI-integrated testing to fine-tune his performance.
“Anthony came to us with a history of injuries, including ruptures to both his patellar and quad tendons,” Burnham said. “We worked from the ground up from ankle mobility to hip stability and even big toe mobility so he could rebuild his foundation. From there, we advanced to explosive movements, change of direction, and endurance so he could sustain a high level of play.”
The unique program blends clinical rehab with elite sports training; a combination not often found outside of professional or research facilities. The same technology used by Detroit’s professional sports teams—including the Lions and Pistons—is available to athletes like Crump at Henry Ford Health.
Henry Ford Health brings world‑class sports performance programs that feature individual services and affordable packages that focus on a person's specific testing, training and recovery needs.
For Crump, the impact has been career-changing.
“I never really took a deep dive into my body until I started working here,” Crump said. “Jenny showed me how issues in my hips and ankles were affecting my knees. Every time I come back, we test, build a plan, and by the end, I feel way better and ready to go. I believe this work has kept me on the court and prepared me for the next level.”
This September, Crump will compete at G League tryouts, including with Detroit’s Motor City Cruise, while also fielding interest from professional teams in Portugal, Germany, and Spain.
“If I had this kind of training in high school, I think some of the injuries I dealt with wouldn’t have happened,” Crump added. “This facility gives players the chance to perform at the highest level and I think other athletes should take advantage of it too.”
Henry Ford Health Sports Performance continues to expand access to innovative training programs for athletes at every level, helping local players like Crump chase their dreams while going where the pros go.
