West Grand Boulevard Lane Closures Begin Sept. 22

• West Grand Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction just west of the Lodge Freeway beginning Tuesday, Sept. 22.
• DDOT bus stops in front of Henry Ford Hospital will be closed during work, with nearby stops available on West Grand Boulevard.

DETROIT — Starting Tuesday, Sept. 22, drivers traveling through New Center on West Grand Boulevard should watch for lane closures just west of the Lodge Freeway.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction in front of Henry Ford Hospital as crews work on a bridge over the roadway, connecting the existing hospital building on the north side of the boulevard to the new patient tower under construction on the south side. The work is expected to take about eight weeks.

Detroit Department of Transportation bus stops in front of the hospital also will be closed during this period. Riders who use Routes 16 and 42 may use the stops at West Grand Boulevard and Rosa Parks Boulevard or West Grand Boulevard and Kipling Avenue as alternatives.

The bridge work is part of Destination: Grand, the $2.2 billion hospital expansion project transforming the Henry Ford Hospital campus. The bridge will allow patients, team members and visitors to move between campus buildings without going outside.
