My passion for patients is evident in my work and research and mostly in my persistent efforts to restore wholeness to patients.
Dr. Atisha is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery with a special interest in restorative breast surgery. She is the director of breast reconstruction and the director of microsurgery for the New Breast Cancer Program at Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Atisha is also responsible for training future plastic surgeons about all types of reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. With experience as an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of South Florida and the Moffitt Cancer Center and with her training at Duke University, she has world class experience in reconstructive microsurgery and is able to offer the full spectrum of breast reconstruction. She specializes in techniques such as oncoplastic breast reconstruction for lumpectomies, implant based reconstruction, latissimus flaps, TRAM flaps, DIEP flaps, thigh flaps, revision breast reconstruction, and fat grafting. Additionally, she is well published in the area of health services and outcomes research associated with breast cancer procedures. As a plastic surgeon physician-scientist, Dr. Atisha has just completed one of the largest patient reported outcomes studies in women undergoing all types of breast cancer surgery. Over 7,600 women with a history of either breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy), mastectomy alone, or mastectomy with reconstruction provided information about their satisfaction and quality of life after these procedures. The story is exciting and complex and the data is currently being published.
