While the precision and technical challenges of microsurgery initially led Dr. Houin to pursue a medical career in plastic surgery, it is the artistry of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery and the ability to help his patients feel appreciative for the results that continues to make his practice professionally and personally satisfying.

To treat my patients with the respect and care I want for my own family.
I enjoy caring for my patients and educating them about the options they have with each of their plastic surgery issues. These important consultation discussions help patients to understand their personal medical situation and to make better, informed cosmetic surgery choices. I encourage my patients to ask questions and always welcome lists of items and issues to discuss.
I always try to see surgical situations from my patient’s perspective. I was brought up in a small town where everyone talks to each other, and that makes it easy for me to relate to my patients. I want to be sure my patients are comfortable with me as their surgeon and the decisions we need to make together. I want all my patients to feel like they are being treated like I would want my family treated. I especially want my patients to feel better about themselves when I am done, whether the procedure is a chemical peel for facial wrinkles, the facelift they have sought for years or the replantation of severed fingers from a traumatic hand accident.

Dr. Houin has performed thousands of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeries for women and men. As a renowned plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery experience at Henry Ford Health System, his practice regularly includes patients seeking his expertise for:
- Body shaping liposuction
- Breast augmentation
- Breast reduction
- Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
- Laser surgery
- Nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty)
- Reconstructive breast surgery
Many patients seek care from Dr. Houin for breast reductions because of the minimal scar liposuction techniques he has used for many years. Using liposuction to help reduce the breast volume is less invasive, less painful and nipple numbness is nonexistent unlike traditional approaches. Reconstructive breast surgery is a large part of Dr. Houin’s practice as he carries the expertise to perform mastectomy with breast reconstruction at the same time or in separate surgeries, depending on what is medically best for each breast cancer patient and each patient’s surgical preference. He works with exceptional general surgeons to perform immediate breast reconstruction when possible.
His cosmetic surgery expertise also includes less invasive cosmetic procedures, such as:
- Chemical peels
- Sciton Halo and fraxel laser
- Sciton BBL light treatment for skin damage
- Sclerotherapy for varicose veins
- Skin filler injections
The Sciton laser and BBL light treatments vastly increase patient options for noninvasive skin rejuvenation with minimal pain and social down time.
No matter what type of cosmetic surgery, Dr. Houin’s artistic and technical surgical skills coupled with experienced, sound medical judgment have served to achieve consistently excellent results for his patients.
